Heather A. Faison, AKA Haftime, is the young whippersnapper with her ears to the street. I’m the old fogey who’s trying desperately to keep up with what’s new and hot.
After communicating via emails, text message, Tweet and carrier pigeon, I finally got a chance to meet Haftime, live and in living color. Lovely girl.
You know how you meet someone and you just know right away that’s your people? That’s how I feel about Haftime, (and her girl Georgia).
We met up in Prospect Park in Brooklyn on Sunday. My best friend Ukachi throws an annual potluck picnic in the park to celebrate the end of summer. I asked Haftime to trek up from Philly so we could do a live version of New Music Monday.
It’s a little messy and all over the place. But it was fun.
Should out to TG for her excellent camera work. And that incessant coughing you hear in the background? That’s Tog. She’s a bit under the weather.
This week? I got hip to the original Rhianna, another one of those Brits Haftime loves so much, a lukewarm effort from Sasha Fierce and poet-turned-rapper Amanda Diva.
Enjoy!
Jamie Lidell – Another Day
Fefe Dobson – I Want You
Amanda Diva – Neon
Beyonce – Poison
So what do you think? Are you feeling Jamie Lidell’s retrosoul groove? Are you up on FeFe? Don’t you agree that she was Rhianna before Rhianna was Rhianna? How do you feel about Amanda Diva? I love her video blogs. Not sure about her music. And this Beyonce track? Yay or Nay?
Haftime and I are waiting with baited breath to hear from you. Seriously.

That Fefe Dobson record (and yes, I said record) is dope! I actually caught her showcase last week in NYC (check out my blog for a review) and she has some great new music.

I like Jamie Lidell I think his voice seems pure and he reminds me of music from my past. But if your looking for a souful throw back here and now, check our Ryan Shaw. I saw him at NJPAC Thursday evening and became a new fan!

I’ve been a fan of Fefe Dobson since her first album. I like “I Want You” and I’m glad she’s making music girl. It’s great see a brown face in the rock music genre. I also like Amanda Diva, she has a song called “Windows Over Harlem” which is pretty good. Jamie Lidell is cool too, I like his soulful sound. I’m a Beyonce fan and like most of her songs immediately, so I definitely like “Poison”.

LOL at the comment frown at the end. thanks for the shoutout! I also don’t trust people who don’t like beyonce. how?! maybe her (non)personality but her voice is amazing. I do think she has yet to make a stellar album and I know she has it in her. like a super classic career defining blow us away soul album.
I like jamie lidell but again, I really like oldies, motown-sounding music. fefe, I don’t love the song but I dig her style
